The Interaction of Charges in Intensive Beams in Dielectrics
(изложение статей в "Знание- сила" -1989, "Science"- 1990)
Let's recollect the Coulomb's law. "Two like charges push off and
different ones attract." Classical LAW is well know since one's school-days.
But ... this fact was established experimentally under the certain
conditions. Practice usually corroborates this law, but still
there is reasonable basis for doubts.
Modern physics has mighty instruments such as
accelerators with high-power electron beams.
There is a gigantic set of charges moving with
velocities that are close to the speed of light .
Let's direct any electron beam on dielectric
medium - and the velocities of charges will exceed the
luminal speed. In this case our theory predicts new
effects of charge interactions. Like charges might attract !
Specific- mathematical problems gave the first grounds for our doubts
. All colleagues told us "There must be an er-ror".
We solved and resolved the problems but numerous verifications,
which were made, revealed no math mistakes. Have model conditions
been incorrect? But we are aware other well-known
theory of Vavilov- Cherenkov's effect, which is based on
similar conditions. We kept the famous results of Cherenkov's
irradiation in mind, and wanted to investigate corpuscular aspects.
We looked through the chain of our theoretic positions and
found the simple mechanical analogues. And only then
we became confident that the new interaction of moving charges
law was derived from Maxwell's equations.
Two like charges may attract in super-luminal beams
in dielectric medium. But in fact, the new
law generalizes Coulomb's law. And we are seeking farther generalizations.
In 70-th years the experiences with intensity
high-velocity electron beams caused a new scientific
interest to superligth charges. The most interesting
interaction of electron beam with solids is consist from any
effects drawing in other directions. The wonderful effect
of non-Coloumb attraction in a electron beam is faint.
And practical (or military?) interest was died .
You maybe to say practice called to finish.
We say "practice do not called NO". The effect is
theoretically possible. The next step is the search of
conditions for observations and use.
And we were intrigued that our mathematical
models for interactions in electron beams easy
transformed for similar dynamic problems in theory of
supersonic cutting, in theory of optic-acoustic effects and others .
